The Hidden Cost of Too Many Calibers

Every cup caliber you carry needs its own matching lid, and often its own sealing film. A menu that spans four or five different rim diameters quietly multiplies your lid SKUs, storage footprint and the risk of grabbing the wrong lid during a rush. Caliber standardization is one of the simplest ways to reduce that operational drag.

One Caliber, Many Cup Sizes

The key insight is that cup capacity and cup caliber are independent. Our 95mm caliber, for example, covers both 16oz and 22oz PET cups, so a single 95mm lid serves multiple drink sizes. By choosing capacities that share a rim diameter, you can offer a full drink menu while stocking far fewer lid types.

Caliber-to-Capacity Reference

This shows how a few calibers can cover a complete drink menu, using our PET caliber system.

78 mm5.5 oz, 8 ozOne 78mm lid
93 mm9 oz, 12 ozOne 93mm lid
95 mm16 oz, 22 ozOne 95mm lid
107 mm30 oz, 32 ozOne 107mm lid

A Practical Standardization Plan

Audit your current menu and group drinks by the caliber they need. Where possible, migrate borderline sizes onto a shared caliber so one lid and one film cover more of the menu. Standardizing around one or two calibers keeps a single lid and film roll compatible across your whole range, which reduces storage space and lid-mismatch waste.

Article FAQs

Does a bigger cup always need a bigger lid?

No. Lid fit depends on the rim diameter (caliber), not the capacity. A 95mm caliber serves both 16oz and 22oz cups with the same 95mm lid.

How many calibers should a typical boba shop stock?

Many shops can cover most of their menu with one or two calibers. The fewer calibers you use, the fewer lid and film SKUs you need to hold.

Can you help me standardize my current cups?

Yes. Share your current cup sizes and we can suggest a caliber grouping that reduces the number of lids and films you need to stock.
